“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
“Goodbye, Berlin” is our exploration of a world where individuals primarily express themselves through the way they dress. In this realm of our imagining, people craft a narrative that suits their moods via their sense of style. Our inspiration for this editorial comes from the short story of the same name by the genius Christopher Isherwood.
In “Goodbye, Berlin,” Isherwood captures the “divinely decadent” world of pre-war 1930s Berlin. It was a city known internationally as a true metropolis, a global haven for intellectuals and artists. Yet it was facing a struggle for its own identity, with the rise of nationalism. We decided to partner up with Berlin-based indie designer Esther Perbandt to recreate this world. Esther’s line can be described as a brilliant sketch of a society in decay, stark lines and beautiful patterns.
