Beauty For Paws, Where Fashion Cares
Recently it was my pleasure to hang out with the iconic costume designers Maggie Barry (the designer behind the celebrity styles worn by today’s biggest musical stars like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj just to name a few) and Drew Bird (the woman who creates one of a kind pieces for stunning performers such as Milla Jovovich, Snoop Dog, Taraji, Rumer Willis) for a night of wondrous runway fashion called “Beauty For Paws” benefiting The Pasadena Humane Society.
After arriving on location via an hours long drive in the rain from West Hollywood to Pasadena, I asked the ladies why they were doing this fundraiser so far from Hollywood. Both of them delightfully pointed out that the fact the Pasadena Humane Society is the central Humane Society for Los Angeles, and that it acts as animal control for 11 cities in the greater Los Angeles area. By doing this amazing work it is usually left running in the red, so why wouldn’t they (Maggie Barry and Drew Bird) do their part to help out those adorable pups? Let’s just say I got with the program real quick, tho honestly I didn’t need that much encouragement.
Drew Bird, Costume Designer
One thing I enjoy about Drew Bird, is the fact she truly is an ‘artist’ in every aspect of her life. I mean her studio / home in downtown LA is shared with the Lucent Dossier Circus, and on any given day you care to drop by there are aerialists and dance rehearsals going on. She describes it as literally living on a Fellini movie set 24/7! As a costume designer Drew Bird is know for her futuristic creations which are worn by such lofty names like Milla Jovovich and Snoop Dog. Check out her latest creations below.

Maggie Barry, Designer
I first met Maggie Barry backstage at a charity poker night for the La Lakers where the star of the hit music group LMFO, Redfoo was performing his cult classic “Sexy and I Know It” in his trademark red speedo which barely covered his big ‘banana‘ on stage.
As I was falling over in a fit of giggles, a very nice woman caught my eye and just smiled. Turns out this charming individual was Maggie Barry, the designer of said ‘red’ speedo. Since then Maggie has gone on to become the go-to designer for today’s biggest music stars like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj.
